- U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Dr. Jendayi Frazer, met with the leader of Zimbabwe's Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Morgan Tsvangirai on April 24, 2008 in Pretoria, South Africa. They discussed how the situation has moved from an electoral crisis to a human rights and humanitarian crisis.

- Johannesburg – The U.S. Embassy, through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and USAID, is sponsoring four days of American food labeling compliance training for Southern African exporters, April 14-17. The three sessions in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town will cover labeling requirements for processed food and natural products for export to the United States.

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch a partnership in support of entrepreneurs in Africa. This groundbreaking public-private initiative will formalize a collaborative arrangement to focus on accelerating investment in African small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
