United States Student Achievers Program (USAP)

An Opportunity to Study in the United States

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT YET OPEN

There are many determined and talented economically-disadvantaged students in South Africa who lack financial resources and access to information to better their educational future. The Education Advising office of the United States Consulates in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban would like to identify students from all over South Africa who have exceptional academic ability, who are highly motivated, have demonstarated leadership potential and of low-income backgrounds to apply for selection into the United States Student Achievers Program (USAP).

The United States Student Achievers Program (USAP) assists academically-talented, economically disadvantaged high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to community service, to negotiate and finance their applications to study at colleges and universities in the United States.

USAP finances the costs of the application process, including registration fees for required standardized examinations and provides free membership to the US Educational Advising Center for its participants. In return, USAP expects an equal commitment of students to give of their energy and time to the program and to their communities.

Although we do not limit the program geographically, students MUST be able to reach the Education Advising offices at the nearest US Consulate on a regular basis during the school year, throughout school holidays, and after final exams for full participation. The students selected in each year will be applying for study in the following year, beginning August/September per the US academic calendar.

Please note: Selection into this program is no guarantee of a scholarship or financial assistance to study in the United States.

Students apply to USAP during their grade 11 or early in their grade 12 year. To be eligible for consideration, you must have a VERY strong academic record, have demonstrated leadership potential, be active in co-curricular and community activities and show well documented financial need. Students must complete the application form specific to the region in which they reside, and return it together by post or in person to the appropriate Education USA advisor in Johannesburg, Cape Town, or Durban, with the required documents listed.
