Youth Crime Watch Opens in Mamelodi East

Pretoria – The South African branch of the Youth Crime Watch organization will set up shop in Mamelodi East at a special ceremony at the Mae Jemison U.S. Science Reading Room on Wednesday, October 21 at 2:45 p.m.

Youth Crime Watch is based in Miami, Florida, and has programs in Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa.  Its aim is to bring “youth of all backgrounds together to identify and correct problems unique to their schools and communities”.  Its website can be found at

High school students, teachers, SAPS officers and International Police Association members will attend the ceremony. The U.S. Embassy will present 325 special T-shirts to YCW country director Eric Kwakye Ohene.  The T-shirts will identify volunteers as members of the Youth Crime Watch project. The program at the Science Reading Room will also include a drug awareness presentation by a police officer.
