The U.S. Embassy presented a stand promoting travel and tourism in the United States at a "Diplomatic Fun Fair" September 14-15, 2012 organized by the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
An estimated 7,000 visitors attended the event.  Embassy staff answered general questions about the U.S.; consular officers offered information on visa application procedures; and public affairs section staff offered information on educational opportunities in the United States.
The Music Academy of Gauteng performed American jazz music while visitors enjoyed throwing an American football, eating popcorn, and being photographed with a Statue of Liberty cut-out.
