Ambassador Gips Visits North West Province

October 7, 2009

Ambassador Donald Gips visited several US Embassy-funded Community Grants projects, including  Tsholofelo , a children’s services project in Mafikeng in his September visit to North West Province.

Tsholofelo, one of two Community Grants recipients in the Mafikeng area, offers preschool education to 84 children, provides home-based care to some 500 patients, and visits another 300 children in their homes.  Tsholofelo serves six area villages:  Tsetse, Makgokwane, Ikopeleng, Six Hundred, Miga, and Matsapole.

With their Ambassador’s Community Grant, Tsholofelo was able to enhance their creche, which services over 80 children and begin an after school program for more than 40 older children.  Tsholofelo purchased items like tables and chairs for the children, chalkboards for the classrooms, tools to assists with their large garden, and fencing to better secure the entire facility.
