Ambassador Bost Hosts Interfaith Dinner in Cape Town

August 14, 2007

On Monday evening, July 16, U.S. Ambassador to South Africa Eric M. Bost hosted an interfaith dinner attended by over twenty activists from Cape Town’s diverse interfaith community.

More than thirty 30 people in total attended the dinner-plus-discussion, including the Catholic Archbishop and the Anglican Dean of St. George’s Cathedral, the chief advisor to Western Cape Premier, the director of the Muslim Youth Movement, the administrator of the Claremont Mosque, the director of the Islamic University, a Stellenbosch University lecturer, and a well-known local author/poet.

Other organizations represented included the Jewish Progressive Temple, the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation, the Chairperson of the African Traditional Religions Association, and representatives of the Bahais. Following dinner, a lively discussion ensued, during which Ambassador Bost remarked on points about U.S. policy towards South Africa before opening the floor to comments and discussion among the attendees.
