American Library Reaches Out to Limpopo

Donates Science Book Collection to Polokwane Public Library

July 26, 2007

The American Library in Pretoria reached out to Limpopo Province, visiting the Polokwane city library, the provincial library service and the University of Limpopo library school.

American Library staffers Mark Dobson and Karin Kitching presented 71 science books, valued at $1,200, to Polokwane Public Library senior managers Koot Jacobs, Magriet Lotz and Annette Pienaar. The books' reading levels range from kindergarten to grade 12.

Three young debaters from Bokamoso and Mohlakaneng schools popped into the library to discuss how best to represent the United States in the United Nations debate in Limpopo in August. The American Library will provide them with background readings on U.S. foreign policy as well as U.S. government policy on refugees and internally displaced persons.

Dobson & Kitching also met with acting provincial library director Mihloti Mayevu, as well as Dr. Brian Brink & colleagues at the University of Limpopo, Turfloop.
