Literacy in Africa:
Mr. Eran Williams is the English Language Officer for Eastern and Southern Africa, at the U.S. Department of State. In this three part series, Mr. Williams speaks on Literacy in Africa ahead of the International Literacy Day observed on September 8th.

Obama Discusses Africa: AllAfrica Interview with the President
July 2, 2009. White House (Blue Room): "I think that there is a direct correlation between governance and prosperity. Countries that are governed well, that are stable, where the leadership recognizes that they are accountable to the people and that institutions are stronger than any one person have a track record of producing results for the people. And we want to highlight that."

President Obama’s Visit to Ghana Will Be Historic. Interview with Johnnie Carson, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, by America.gov
June 17, 2009. Washington: "President Obama's visit to Accra, Ghana in early July will be an historic occasion. It will be one if not the first, earliest visit by a U.S. President to Africa after assuming office. The trip to Ghana itself is in recognition of the enormous progress that Ghana has made in the area of democratization."

May 12, 2009, Pretoria: CNBC Africa's Mashudu Masutha spoke to Ronald Kirkin South Africa about his government's relations with Africa under the Obama administration. As far as Africa was concerned, America saw that it could have more complex trade relations with the region, rather than just being an importer of commodities like oil.

Zimbabwe situation report. Ambassador James McGee radio interview
May 6, 2009. Pretoria: Ambassador McGee is interviewed by two radio stations on the current situation. While "a lack of goodwill on the part of ZANU PF" undermines the performance of the unity government in effecting change "tremendous progress has been made", says McGee. Other topics covered include the arrest of activists, farm invasions and US developmental and humanitarian aid.
