Undergraduate Admission

Most U.S. universities require SAT and TOEFL exams.  Please check first on each university’s website.

  • SAT Reasoning and SAT Subject Tests
    The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is offered on average six times a year outside of the United States.  Not all the following testing centers offer it on all dates:  the U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg, University of Witwatersrand, the African Leadership Academy in Honeydew, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in Henley-on-Klip, the African Union International School in Midrand, and Bohmer Secondary School in Bloemfontein.  To learn about costs, how to book, test dates and procedures, you need  to register.
  • ACT
    The ACT is offered 5 times a year in South Africa. The ACT website provides information on registration, fees and test centers.

English Language Ability

    The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is offered on average three times a month in South Africa.  The TOEFL website provides information on costs, payment methods, test dates and procedures, as well as useful test preparation information.

Graduate Admission

Please check individual university websites for specific admission requirements for graduate programs (Master’s, including M.B.A., and Ph.D.) to confirm which exams are required. The TOEFL exam is often required.

  • GRE
    The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) for post-graduate studies is offered multiple times a month in South Africa.  The GRE website has information on costs, test dates, and test centers, as well as useful test preparation info.
  • GMAT
    The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) for Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) programs is offered multiple times a month at Pearson Professional Centres in Sandton, Johannesburg and the International Testing Center in Pretoria.  The GMAT website has information on test dates and procedures.
